Neal Stephenson, the author of the book Snow Crash and founder of The Verge, has now stated that he no longer believes face-worn computing is the future and that people don't like wearing things on their faces and don't trust those who do. He also believes that there is no business case for headsets in a world where they are replaced by phones. Stephenson's comments suggest he is tacitly agreeing with Meta, Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney, and possibly with Google, which is building a new category of “metaverse” apps.
