The maximum penalty of $5,000 per violation under New Mexico law is $11,000. This verdict will cost Meta and the owners of and Instagram up to $375 million in penalties. The state of New Mexico praised the verdict as a historic victory for families, educators, and child safety experts. The trial, which began in February, is set to begin on May 4 for public nuisance violations.
