The leaders of Sports Bra, the first sports bar dedicated to women's sports in Portland, and the James Beard Public Market were among the speakers at the TEDx Portland conference. Jenny Nguyen, a first-generation immigrant from Portland, expressed her desire to pursue a new career and to dream big. She said that her decision to leave her job as executive chef at Reed College, her "dream job," created space for her to dream and achieve big things. The conference was part of a global nonprofit showcasing Technology, Entertainment and Design. Speakers included former star athletes, Oregon university scientists, entrepreneurs, and a high school student who encouraged a sold-out theater audience to find ways to inspire themselves and their community. Longtime WNBA guard Diana Taurasi also highlighted the excitement of the Portland Fire expansion franchise, which begins play next month. The public market's executive director, Jessica Elkan, said the market will be a showcase for Oregon produce and for Portland, which she believes can help unify Oregonians in the same way as the previous years.
