China’s Xi meets Russian FM Lavrov, calls relations with Moscow ‘precious’

Chinese President Xi Jinping has met with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov to discuss the Iran war and other concerns. Xi called for closer strategic coordination between Beijing and Moscow, calling for the stability and certainty of China-Russia relations during a period of change and chaos. The meeting was attended by top Chinese leaders, including Foreign Minister Wang Yi. Lavrov also discussed the situation in the Middle East, the Ukraine war, and other geopolitical issues. There are concerns that the shutdown of the Strait of Hormuz could trigger a global food crisis, as 20 percent of the world's oil and gas exports transited the waterway before the war.
