The White House has covered the Rose Garden patio with fake grass for the 2026 Easter Egg Roll, months after President Donald Trump replaced the lawn with cement pavers and replaced it with concrete pavers. The fake grass was placed on the patio during the event as children and their parents participated in story time. The modern White House Rose Garden, one of the most cherished areas of the People's House, was envisioned under President John F. Kennedy and his wife, Jackie Kennedy, in 1961 as a green space that could accommodate high-level ceremonies on its central lawn. The Trumps also removed the Kennedy-era lawn completely when they returned for a second term, replacing it with new concrete paverations and patio furniture inspired by Trump’s Mar-a-Lago club in Palm Beach, Florida. The White House is currently undergoing ongoing renovations to replace the original Rose Garden with Black Granite along the floor of the West Wing Colonnade.
