Parma schools Board of Education embroiled in board member absence controversy

The Parma City Schools Board of Education has been embroiled in controversy over the use of virtual meetings by members of the Air Force and active reservist Ashley McTaggart. The Board discussed this issue at a work session last week, with the question being asked whether attending virtually is allowed or if not, should Mctaggart's seat be considered vacant. State law has been changed in the last year to no longer allow members to attend virtually, and a board member must be physically present to vote and to be counted for quorum purposes. However, Board President Tammie Sebastian stated that no formal board action was contemplated or taken during the work session.
