Since the start of the war, the U.S. and Israeli military have targeted multiple locations across the country, including in Tehran, a densely populated metropolis of 10 million people. Over 1,200 people have been killed and significant damage to historical cultural sites, including oil facilities. The Iranian Red Crescent Society reports that the targeting of oil facilities has added a surreal element to life in the capital. Residents are concerned about the long-term economic impact of the conflict, with businesses such as importing carpet-weaving machines severely impacted. Many have fled to family homes or short-term rental properties, while others have moved to the Caspian Sea coast in northern Iran. Despite some power cuts, there is no sign yet of massive blackouts and water shortages.
