Lakeisha Brown, a 44-year-old mother-of-four, was diagnosed with heart failure in 2021 after her organs began to fail. Her vital organ was functioning at 6%, and many of her other organs were also shutting down. Brown was diagnosed as having nonischemic cardiomyopathy, a condition of the heart muscles that prevents the heart from sending enough blood to the rest of the body. She was put on a pacemaker and medication to manage her condition, but continued to experience intense heart palpitations and nausea. Despite being told she had six to nine months to live, Brown was told she would need a heart transplant. She inherited her condition from her grandmother.
