President Donald Trump has praised the federal government for preventing crime in New Orleans from occurring during Mardi Gras, stating that it is the safest Mardi Gas in 58 years. This statement came during discussions about National Guard deployments and immigration enforcement in several cities. This isn't the first time the president has praised New Orleans for improving crime rates. The National Guard was initially scheduled to leave New Orleans at the end of February, but has now been extended for another six months.
