The Alaska Senate unanimously voted to advance a spending bill that adds $373 million to the current year's budget. The bill also includes a $3 billion savings account, which requires support from three-quarters of lawmakers. High oil prices, driven by the Iran war, are expected to bring in tens of millions of dollars in additional revenue for the state, but it is unlikely to cover the full cost of the additional spending needed in the current fiscal year. The unexpected revenue paved the way for a smaller than expected draw from savings, leading to Republican minority support in the Senate. The Senate also removed $78 million from the bill to cover unexpected agency operations, primarily for Medicaid and the Department of Corrections. The supplemental funding includes $70 million in state transportation funding used to leverage federal transportation dollars.
