Newsom compares Israel to ‘apartheid state,’ wants to ‘rethink’ U.S. relationship

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) has compared Israel to an "apartheid state" and suggested that the U.S. should consider rethinking its relationship with the Jewish state after both countries carried out attacks on Iran. Newsom was promoting his new political memoir, "Young Man in a Hurry," and discussed how many Democrats disapprove of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's "trajectory". He also mentioned the issue of regime change, noting that Israel has not been able to resolve the Hamas question in Gaza following the October 7, 2023, attack. This comes after Newsom refused to call Israel's bombardment of Gaza, the cutoff of humanitarian aid and the deaths of hundreds of thousands of Palestinian civilians.
