Ridgewood Schools Make Decision About Popular Coach Who Faced Layoff

Ridgewood Public Schools has made a decision to keep wrestling coach Robert Franklin, a popular teacher and assistant coach, out of necessity. The decision was made ahead of a final vote on the district's $134 million budget, which includes a 4 percent tax increase. If positions become vacant due to retirement or resignations, these positions would be filled with staff facing layoffs. The proposed budget includes an increase in the tax levy of almost 4 percent, or $527 per year for an average home in the district.
