Albuquerque business owners are questioning the city's new Safer Community Places Ordinance, which restricts U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents from using city spaces for operations and adds new steps for businesses that apply for or renew licenses. The city is working out details and plans to provide guidance and resources to businesses if Mayor Tim Keller signs the ordinance. Denise Baker, owner of Rio Bravo Brewing, expressed concern about the new rules and worker notices. The ordinance requires businesses to post public or private signs in areas within the business to indicate where a warrant is needed, and employers to notify employees within 24 hours if immigration inspections or enforcement action occur.
