Boston Mayor Michelle Wu's unchecked spending on non-citizens' rights is causing a budget crisis for the city and taxpayers, following years of unchecked spending. The spending includes millions in White Stadium renovations for a private soccer club and millions more for non-profit programs. The mayor has been forced to institute a spending freeze on everything from travel to City Hall swag due to an impending budget crisis. The city is also seeking approval from city unions to limit GLP-1 coverage for weight loss due to rising health insurance costs, which are projected to lead to a 22.6% premium rate increase for city employees. The administration claims it cannot raise adequate funds due to its reliance on property taxes. However, Wu continues to spend millions of dollars on funding for “immigrant advancement” – providing legal representation for illegal immigrants. The Office of Immigrant Advancement budget has increased by 21% over the past four years, reaching $3.6 million this fiscal year.
