The New York Yankees' starting pitcher Max Fried was praised for his performance in their 5-0 victory over the Mariners, following his Opening Day start against the Giants. The team bounced back from their first loss of the season with a 5-1 win over Seattle. Fried, who has a 0.00 ERA over two starts and is the only team since 1900 to allow fewer than five runs and strike out at least 45 batters in the first five games of a season, has been praised by Aaron Boone and J.C. Escarra. The Yankees have matched the 1943 Cardinals for the fewest number of runs allowed through the season. Despite some question marks about their rotation, including Gerrit Cole, Carlos Rodón and Clarke Schmidt starting the season on the injured list and others, including Fried, coming off high workloads.
