Rep. Eric Swalwell has suspended his campaign for California governor following allegations of sexual assault. Steve Hilton, a former Fox News host and leading Republican candidate in the race, claimed that his departure was inevitable and questioned why he entered the contest in the first place. Hilton also accused prominent Democrats and labor groups of concealing the situation, which he claimed was an "open secret" on Capitol Hill and Sacramento. He accused Rep. Nancy Pelosi, Sen. Adam Schiff, teacher unions and the SEIU of their hypocrisy. Rusty Hicks, chair of the California Democratic Party, expressed relief at the suspension and called on Democrats to vote against Swalway. Meanwhile, Assemblymember James Gallagher, a Republican from Yuba City, said he was “curious’s intentions” after suspending his campaign.
