President Donald Trump has criticised Pope Leo XIV, calling him "weak" and "terrible" on key issues such as crime and foreign policy, in a lengthy post to Truth Social and remarks to journalists. The president accused the spiritual head of the Catholic Church of being "WEAK on Crime, and terrible for Foreign Policy". He also stated that he does not want a Pope who criticizes the President of the United States for his stance on crime and nuclear weapons. Despite being elected as the first American-born Roman pontiff less than a year earlier, he has largely avoided mentioning Trump when discussing global issues or responding to news from his home country.
