Military Helicopter Crosses into Path of United Airlines Flight with 168 People on Board in Near-Miss Moments Before Landing

A military Black Hawk helicopter crossed into the path of a United Airlines flight shortly before it was due to land at John Wayne Airport in Santa Ana, Calif. The incident occurred on March 24 at around 8:40 p.m. local time and occurred when the plane was carrying 162 passengers and six crew members. The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) confirmed that it was a Sikorsky helicopter that had crossed in front of United’s flight path. The California National Guard confirmed that the helicopter had been on a routine training mission when it crossed into its path.
