Foreign investors slowed their purchases of emerging market assets in February, dropping to below $22 billion, according to data from the Institute of International Finance (IIF). Non-resident investors added a net $21.7 billion to emerging market portfolios last month, a sharp decline from January's record $100.5 billion. This slowdown is likely to be attributed to an unusually strong start to the year and a more fundamental shift in investor appetite. Despite this, China's debt market attracted $400 million in February and emerging markets outside China received $13.8 billion. Meanwhile, Asia saw $5.9 billion and Latin America saw $4.3 billion.
