St. Paul lawmaker to introduce bill repealing César Chávez Day in MN

State Rep. María Isa Pérez-Vega, DFL-St. Paul, will introduce legislation to repeal César Chávez Day on March 31, marking the day commemorating him in Minnesota. This comes after allegations against Chévez of sexual violence against girls and co-founder of the United Farm Workers of America union, Dolores Huerta, have been investigated by the New York Times. The announcement comes amid concerns that many upcoming celebrations and holidays honoring Chééé are being renamed, postponed or canceled. Several states, including Minnesota, California, Colorado, Texas, Utah, and Washington, recognize a day on or near Chéeé.
