The Pentagon's $200 billion cost for Iran has been welcomed by House Republicans as a potential solution to a stalled reconciliation 2.0 process. The number is expected to increase the urgency of Speaker Mike Johnson to bring a must-pass defense spending bill to the House. The House of Representatives has been unable to agree on a reconciliation 2., which has been problematic due to the lack of consensus within the GOP. The Senate is less than evenly divided on using a second reconciliation bill to replenish the munitions the Pentagon has used for Operation Epic Fury in Iran. However, House Budget Chair Jodey Arrington (R-Texas) has suggested using tariff revenue, cuts to government programs and changes to Affordable Care Act cost-sharing reduction payments as potential offsets. The addition of Iran funding could be crucial to unlocking President Trump's attention, particularly if GOP leaders want to pass another party-line bill when they have an even smaller majority than last year.
