Maryland stifles Oregon in first half, hangs on to win tourney opener

17th-seeded Maryland defeated 16th seed Oregon in the opening round of the Big Ten tournament in Chicago, with a 70-60 victory. David Coit scored 17 points and Elijah Saunders scored all 15 of his 15 points from 3-point range for Maryland, while Solomon Washington and Andre Mills added 12 points each. The victory marks Maryland's worst record since the 1988-89 season for the team. The team's defense limited Oregon to 36.5% shooting overall, including a strong performance from Elijah Saunders. Nate Bittle scored 16 points and nine rebounds for Oregon, while Kwame Evans Jr. added 14 points and Takai Simpkins scored 14 points.
