The newspaper's editor's note stated that the term does not align with Associated Press style or the values of the newspaper. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) revealed that Medina-Madrid was released by the Biden administration after being arrested by the Border Patrol. The paper updated its story to call Medina-Mandridina a "Rogers Park Resident" and deleted the original Instagram post calling him an illegal immigrant.
