Extreme drought worsens despite weekend rain chances
Published on April 24, 2026.
High pressure is expected to dominate the weekend, leaving temperatures in the 70s and 80s without significant rainfall. Despite this, a Dense SMOKE ADVISORY remains in effect for Brantley and western Glynn Counties due to a thick concentration of smoke over these areas due to the Brantly County fire, which is over 7,000 acres and 15% contained. Temperatures will reach near 90 degrees on Saturday, with an isolated shower or storm possible, but most spots will remain dry. The potential for rain later this weekend is expected, but coverage will only be around 30%. The area remains in an extreme drought and an exceptional drought classification has been expanded to include more of our area.
