A water main break in Bingen, Washington, has flooded several businesses along West Steuben Street, forcing closures and causing significant damage. The incident occurred around noon on Wednesday, when contractor Grade Werks Excavating was working on a project to install a flashing pedestrian crossing beacon. Public works quickly shut off water on both sides of the street, but water had already spread into multiple businesses. The owner of Carmen's Kitchen, Miguel A. Reyes, attempted to contain the water using sandbags and buckets but the dining area was quickly inundated. Reyes expects to replace the entire dining room floor and anticipates the restaurant will be closed for about two months.
