Actor Nathan Lane, who was born Joseph Lane, has revealed that he changed his name when he entered Hollywood. He was unable to keep his own name due to the union requirement for a unique professional working name to prevent confusion in credits, billing, and residuals. He chose the name 'Nathan' after he played Nathan Detroit in the Frank Loesser musical Guys & Dolls. While his colleagues in show business referred to him as 'nathan,' his close family still refers to him by 'Joe' in private settings. Lane was on The Howard Stern Show to promote his latest Broadway role as Willy Loman in Arthur Miller’s, which he stars in.
