NJ Transit and FIFA New York New Jersey Host Committee have announced fare hikes for eight matches at MetLife Stadium, starting June 13 and ending July 19. The round-trip train ticket to and from New York Penn Station and the stadium will cost $150, up from the usual $12.90. NJ Transit CEO Kris Kolluri defended the fare hikes, stating that the cost should not be the burden of New Jersey commuters. He also stated that the tournament will cost NJ Transit $48 million and that commuters would subsidize the bill by 92%. However, FIFA responded by criticising the decision to increase the cost of commuting for the World Cup.
