Anthropic, a San Francisco-based artificial intelligence lab, is considering designing its own AI chips to address a shortage of chips needed for power and development of advanced AI systems. The company has yet to commit to a specific design or hire a dedicated team to work on the project. An advanced AI chip can cost around half a billion dollars, and may require skilled engineers to ensure no defects occur.
