CPS weighs cuts, restructuring options amid budget deficit

Cincinnati Public Schools (CPS) is facing a budget deficit in the tens of millions of dollars, with the school board deciding what to prioritize. The board approved just under $330 million in spending, but all of this is going towards staff. The potential cuts include reducing central office funding and returning to pre-VIDO funding, which could result in the loss of new initiatives and programs. The hardest decisions are yet to come as the board decides not to approve $70 million in funds for the central office. Dr. Kareem Moffett, the vice president of the CPS, suggested that more robust cuts could be made. However, there is still a possibility of asking the taxpayer for more money.
