Former White House communications director and SkyBridge Capital founder, Anthony Scaramucci, has called for an "over-the-horizon posture" for the United States in the Middle East following reports of Iranian attacks on U.S. facilities across the Gulf. He argues that permanent land bases have become an expensive vulnerability rather than a permanent strategic asset. The current model of basing leaves American assets vulnerable to missile and drone attacks at an enormous cost.
