Scientists from The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (JHUAPL) and the Sandia National Laboratories have suggested that if Venus has life, it may have originated from Earth. Their study, presented at the 2026 Lunar and Planetary Science Conference, explored this idea using the "Venus Life Equation" (VLE) framework developed by Noam Izenberg et al. The VLE suggests that life could exist in Venus' clouds for at least a few days per century due to material ejected from Earth, which was then transported to other worlds. The team found that hundreds of billions of cells may have been transferred from Earth to the clouds of Venus, while hundreds of thousands could remain potentially viable. However, their model does not capture every detail of bolide-atmosphere interaction.
