The Yuma Street Cultural Center (YSCC) has broken ground in Manhattan, intended to preserve the historic legacy of Manhattan's black community. The center will be located at the Shepard Chapel at 930 Yum. It will include spaces like a business-working space, chef-driven restaurants, and a resource space for Fort Riley families and Kansas State University students. The campaign raised $850,000 of its nearly $2.5 million goal. The chapel was recognized by the National Register of Historic Places in 2023.
