The Kansas House of Representatives voted unanimously in favor of House Bill 2416, which protects existing racetracks and drag strips from civil suits for noise and nuisance. The bill still needs to be sent to Kansas Governor Laura Kelly before it can be signed into law, but it is believed that she won't veto the legislation. The new bill provides immunity to racetrack and racing venues that existed before neighboring property owners acquired or construct residential or commercial buildings. The vote followed a successful 38-2 vote in the Kansas Senate. If approved, Kansas will join Iowa and North Carolina in successfully passing legislation to protect motorsports venues from noise complaints and nuisance suits.
