Sabrina Carpenter, the Coachella headliner, has apologized for dismissing a traditional Arabic celebratory call as "weird" following backlash that her comments were insensitive and xenophobic. The Zaghrouta, or Arabic cheer, is a type of ululation or lele that is part of the wider culture of the SWANA region and last appeared during the 2020 Super Bowl Halftime show. The incident occurred when Carpenter overheard a fan in the crowd chanting "Weird" and asked if it was part of her culture. She responded by saying she could have handled it better and welcomed all cheers and yodels.
