Published on May 1, 2026.
Bryan Rafael Gomez, a suspected illegal migrant from the Dominican Republic, was released from Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody by a judge appointed by former President Joe Biden in Rhode Island. The judge ruled that Gomez was not subject to mandatory detention due to his arrest on April 4 for assault and battery in Worcester, Massachusetts, and did not apply to him as he was arrested by local police inside the US. Gomez had entered the US illegally in 2022 and was subsequently caught and released by Border Patrol near Lukeville, Arizona. The Interpol Red Notice was issued for Gomez in 2023.
