Commodity trader Glencore has withdrawn large amounts of cobalt from China's Wuxi exchange to meet commitments to electric-vehicle battery makers. This comes after Congo suspended exports in February last year to support low cobalt prices, which had dropped to nine-year lows. Despite being able to import cobalt it had stockpiled in Malaysia to China, Glencore lacks sufficient supplies to meet its contractual obligations. The company produced 33,500 tons of the cobalt in Congo last year and plans to export 22,800 tons this year under the quota system.
