Hegseth fires Army’s top general as fighting continues in Iran

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has fired Gen. Randy George as the Army's top uniformed officer and two other generals, without giving a reason. George had been serving as Army chief of staff since August 2023 under the Biden administration. This is part of a larger trend of firings by the Pentagon since Hegsetsh took office last year. Other generals, including Army Gen. David Hodne and Maj. William Green, were also dismissed without giving reasons. George's departure comes nearly five weeks into U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran, with no clear timeline on when the war may end.
