TikToker and environmentalist Emma has shared a way to recycle old pill bottles, which are often discarded curbside. Donating old medicine bottles to non-profit organizations such as churches, homeless organizations, and animal shelters is a charitable way. Although most medicine bottles are made up of recyclable plastic, some sanitation departments may not include them in recycling due to their small size. Many municipal recycling programs sort items with a rotary screening device, but smaller items often fall through the holes and get sent to landfills. The most common plastic used in pill bottles can take anywhere from 20 to 30 years to decompose.
