San Diego has implemented AI technology for its police dispatchers, including agents who answer non-emergency calls and automatically classify calls by type. The contract was obtained through a public records request. The service, provided by Invictus, has several features including transcribing 911 calls and assisting dispatcher with identifying callers. However, advocates have warned that this could violate privacy and could lead to people with uncertain immigration status not calling 911 for fear of detection. The system is not intended to replace human interaction with the call. The city signed a one-year, $263,434 contract with Invictis Apps, Inc. in July 2025. If renewed, it will cost about $600,000 a year.
