Former Rohnert Park police officer, Joseph Huffaker, is seeking a new trial after he was convicted in July of posing as a government agent to steal cash and cannabis from drivers on Highway 101 near the border of Sonoma and Mendocino counties. His motion was filed March 18 in U.S. District Court in San Francisco and will go before Judge Maxine Chesney on April 15, the same day he may be sentenced. His attorney, Karen Landau, argues that co-defendant Brendan "Jacy" Tatum gave "false testimony" about a fake police report they used to conceal an illegal traffic stop on Dec. 18, 2017. Tatum had previously claimed that he prepared the report himself after talking to Huffaker and receiving information about the traffic stop. Prosecutors deny these claims, arguing that the defense hasn't proven Tatum lied.
