How ICE raids are affecting older adults — especially those who need caregivers

The California Health Report has highlighted the impact of Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) raids on older adults, particularly those who need in-home care. The changes in immigration policy and raids have led to concerns about the safety of these individuals. The ICE actions affect the current and future caregiver workforce, including those who are undocumented, as well as nearly 500,000 workers with legal status. 109 organizations have written to Congress calling for the halt of these actions. California Department of Aging is addressing the unmet and future demand for caregivers, as outlined in the state’s Master Plan for Aging. The gap between the number of caregivers and the aging population is expected to widen by 2030.
