The US government has temporarily lifted sanctions on Russian oil "stranded at sea" in an effort to contain rising energy prices due to Iranian threats. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent stated that the move was part of President Trump's strategy to promote stability in global energy markets and keep oil prices low. The temporary exemption will only apply to oil "already in transit" and will not provide significant financial benefit to the Russian government. The exemptions will be in place until April 11.
