Prioritising AI data centres could block new homes, builders warn

There are estimated to be 140 data centres in the UK waiting for a new electricity connection, driven by mostly by power-hungry data centres. The regulator for the energy sector has warned that some projects are only speculative, meaning they may face waits of up to two decades. It will consult on allowing these projects to skip the queue and will help speed up the process.
