Chinese startup, Gestala, has secured China's largest early-stage brain-computer interface round, securing $21.6 million, approximately CN¥150 million, just two months after its founding, with a valuation between $100 million and $200 million. The round was heavily oversubscribed and exceeded available allocation of more than $58 million. Gestala is developing non-invasive brain-Computer interface technology based on focused ultrasound, which he believes could revolutionise the field. Unlike traditional implantable BCI systems, the company uses phased-array ultrasound to access deep neural circuits without incision, which Peng believes could enable applications that current generation BCIs cannot support. The company is also studying applications in mental health, including depression, PTSD, autism spectrum disorder, and OCD, as well as stroke rehabilitation. Despite rising geopolitical tensions between Beijing and Washington, Peng remains open to US-China collaboration on deep-technology research.
