Rose Lavelle, a 30-year-old Ohio native, scored the opening goal and assisted on the game-winner as the United States women’s national team beat Japan 2-1 in a friendly match at PayPal Park in San Jose. The match was attended by an announced crowd of 17,435 and was attended as part of three friendlies between the two teams during this international window. The win was Lavele's 100th career start for the national team and she made it count. The game was also marked as a homecoming three years in the making for Naomi Girma, who played the entire game.
