Man who gunned down ex-girlfriend following cancer charity walk sentenced to prison

Jackson Hopper, 27, has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Ellie Claire Young, following a cancer charity walk. Young was shot and killed at an event at Shelby Farms in 2024. Hopper had previously been charged with first-degree murder. He will serve 100% of the sentence. Additionally, Young's family has filed a $10 million wrongful death lawsuit against Hopper and his family.
