A significant reversal in the legal battle between the governor and the Arkansas Board of Corrections, after a new majority of four board members, all appointed by the governor, voted to settle two lawsuits that the board had already won against her and the attorney general. The Board had filed the lawsuits to challenge new state laws transferring their authority from the governor to the governor. However, after the governor appointed a majority, it suddenly reversed course and agreed to settlements, which would require both parties to ask the Supreme Court to vacate lower court rulings in favor of the board and permanently block the laws taking away its power. Abtin Mehdizadegan, the lawyer who represented the board before it was taken over, has accused the Sanders administration of violating their constitutional rights.
