DHS releases long-delayed World Cup security funds to Kansas City

After months of delays, federal security funds for the 2026 FIFA World Cup are now being distributed to Kansas City. The funds were allocated through the Working Families Tax Cut Law, which allows for several U.S. cities hosting matches during the tournament. The delay had raised concerns at multiple levels of government and led to increased pressure on local officials. The Department of Homeland Security began releasing the funds on March 13 following a push by Congressman Mark Alford. Alford and Deputy Police Chief Joseph Mabin had previously testified that without the funds, years of security planning would be at risk.
