Djibouti's President, Ismail Omar Guelleh, has won an election with 97.8% of the vote, keeping him in power for a sixth term. His sole challenger, Mohamed Farah Samatar, received 2.19% in a poll that was boycotted by most of the opposition. The election was held after the constitution was amended to remove the upper age limit of 75 for presidential candidates. This is only the second president since Djibia became independent in 1977. The results still need to be validated by judges on the constitutional council before GuelleH can be sworn in for another five-year term.
