In Cuba, food is rotting in the fields and families are going hungry due to the lack of fuel, parts, and basic inputs. The U.S. fuel embargo, along with increased sanctions under President Donald Trump's administration, is strangling Cuba's agricultural system from seed to table. This makes it harder and harder for Cubans to feed themselves. Cuban farmers have already been operating under severe constraints due to US. sanctions, struggling to obtain spare parts to repair tractors, access fertilizers and pesticides, and securing basic inputs like seeds. Add to the already fragile system, the fuel crisis, and climate change, exacerbating existing issues such as dry weather, inadequate rainfall, erratic rainfall, and rising temperatures. Food that could nourish communities never reaches the people who need it most. The government has set up soup kitchens to support the most vulnerable, but portions have been reduced due to gas shortages and unreliable electricity.
